Role changed from armoured car regiment to motorised infantry battalion on 31 December 1992 under the post-Resolution 435 reduction of the SA Army, gaining an operational A Company from Group 20. Operation Baccarat during the 1994 general election, covering Mmabatho and Passado in the North West. From 19 December 1994 the Bophuthatswana Defence Force Parachute Battalion at Gopane came under its operational command as part of the founding of the SANDF. Bridging training for 550 former non-statutory force members, August 1994 to 15 June 1995. Amalgamated with 10 SAI at Mafikeng on 1 April 1997 and demobilised on 30 August 1997, the base passing to 2 SAI.
