Died of wounds, in Katlehong on the East Rand (now part of Gauteng) during military intervention in a skirmish between IFP and ANC armed forces. His patrol drew AK47 and 9 mm fire from surrounding houses and he was wounded in the chest. He died later in Alberton Hospital
