Cpl Taljaard was also a crew member of an armoured car. The car was disabled in an ambush by Cubans north of a town called Ebo on 24 November 1975. They abandoned the vehicle and he sought some refuge amongst some trees. Unfortunately, there was an explosion nearby and he was killed when some shrapnel hit him in the neck. His body was recovered and returned to South Africa.
