Research notes

Col (rt) Graham du Toit, Last Post, 31 Aug 2026 gives Rank 'Pupil Pilot' for this AT-6 Harvard solo night navigation crash near Ermelo -- CONFLICT with ROH's stored Rank 'Air Mechanic' (a Pupil Pilot flying solo fits the narrative better than a mechanic, but not changed without a source resolving it). Age 21 and cause match ROH exactly.
Bushwar Books same-day post reconciles the Rank conflict: gives 'Air Mechanic (Pilot Under Training)' -- matching both ROH's 'Air Mechanic' and Graham's 'Pupil Pilot' simultaneously (his trade was Air Mechanic, his training status was Pupil Pilot). ROH Rank left as Air Mechanic (the substantive trade classification).
5 Sep 2026: Unit "40 Squadron" (a squadron, SAAF's regiment-equivalent) promoted to Regiment, per John's decision. Corps (South African Air Force) unchanged.
