Able Seaman Wiseman Sifiso Mchunu a member of the Ships Company allegedly walked into the cabin of the Sub-Lieutenant who was asleep at the time and fired two shots, hitting Clarkson in the head and killing him instantly. - HIS KILLER IS ALREADY ON THIS ROLL: Able Bodied Seaman Wiseman Sifiso McHunu (31819), who died the same day -- his stored cause reads "Committed Suicide, after shooting Second Lieut. Clarkson". So Clarkson was named on this roll before he had a record of his own. The two records now reference each other.
- RANK: McHunu's record calls him "Second Lieut."; Mike and the press report give Sub-Lieutenant, the Navy rank, which is used here.
- AGE CONFLICT, flagged not resolved: Mike gives 25; the Independent Online report he cites ("Navy chief visits Simon's Town murder scene", iol.co.za/news/politics/navy-chief-visits-simons-town-murder-scene-42427) says 26. That report adds that the two had argued earlier over military dress code, and that a dockyard source suggested the attack may have been prompted by an argument on the Monday over the officer's refusal to let Mchunu wear civilian clothes on duty.
