Ricky and his brother Mario were at Parktown Boys High whilst I was there. Quiet but tough-minded boys, both went on to become PF pilots and saw their share of combat. I didn't know either of them well but my friends and I admired them all the same. After surviving the war, Ricky died in a training accident in a Harvard at Dunnotar.

Ricky, I am not sure if you ever realized the impact you had on my life as your younger "Boet". I believe that everything that I went on to achieve was as a result of your influence!! Wish you were here to share your sons growing up and seeing their achievements. It has almost been 20 years since your untimely death, but I know you died doing what you loved best...Flying!!
