SN CORRECTION 25 Aug 2026: ServiceNo 96681655PV cleared -- the pantser.cmvo.org.za SADF deaths PDF lists that number under "SHANGE, LUNGILE PENELOPE" (L CPL, Sterf 24 05 99), matching PersonNumber 32902 (Shange, DateDeath 1999-05-24) by surname and exact date, not this record. Original value: "96681655PV". Left as an unresolved collision otherwise -- this correction is specific to this one PDF-confirmed case, not a general claim this record's other data is wrong.
FirstName contamination fixed 31 Aug 2026 (systemic full-table scan): FirstName ("Lungile Penelope") was copied from the unrelated neighbouring record PersonNumber 32902 ("Shange, Lungile Penelope", initials L P) -- this record's own stored initials (S) don't match "Lungile Penelope" at all. Confirmed by the existing 25 Aug 2026 SN CORRECTION note on this record, which already identified PersonNumber 32902 as the true owner of this record's copied ServiceNo via the same external source. Cleared back to unknown rather than guessed, AddInfo (also an exact copy from the same neighbour) cleared likewise.
Mike Sandham OMISSIONS: 20 SEPTEMBER (mailed 20 Sep 2026, credited The South Africa War Graves Project unless otherwise specified) -- CORRECTION, applied: "20 Sep 1979: Rifleman S Shangweni from 101 Battalion, South West African Territory. Note by e-mail author: Prior to 01 Aug 1980, the date SWATF was established, 101 Bn was designated 35 Bn, SADF!" Mike is right, and this roll already held the evidence: OrgEntityAlias records 35 Battalion becoming 101 Battalion in 1980. A man who died in September 1979 cannot have served in a unit that did not carry that name until August 1980. Regiment corrected 101 Battalion -> 35 Battalion. Force was already SADF, correctly, since SWATF did not exist either; the Corps field still reads South West African Territory Force and is left for the wider review below.
- THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. Checking every 1980 SWATF renaming recorded in OrgEntityAlias found 53 records on this roll carrying a unit's LATER name against a date of death before the rename: 34->202 Battalion (24), 35->101 Battalion (14), 37->102 Battalion (8), 41->911 Battalion (4), 31->201 Battalion (2), 36->203 Battalion (1). Reported to John; not swept, because renaming sourced unit data in bulk is his call.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED as a duplicate. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word repeating what the Branch column already says. Secondary Unit is for sub-units -- a company, a squadron, a commando -- and this record's branch of service is unchanged at "Army".
