Cause of Death
Killed in action, during a contact with a numerically superior Angolan and Cuban force at Donguena, north of Calueque, in Southern Angola. He was sitting in the rear of the Casspir and was hit by a RPG7 or AT grenade, which killed him and set the vehicle alight. During the recovery process the doors had swung open and his body must have fallen out. His body was never recovered. This is the same contact during which L/Cpl Papenfus was captured by the Cubans

Research notes

SN CORRECTION 25 Aug 2026: ServiceNo 78491404BG cleared -- the pantser.cmvo.org.za SADF deaths PDF lists that number under "PETERSON, MARIUS" (RFN, Sterf 15 04 82), matching PersonNumber 32473 (Peterson, DateDeath 1982-04-15) by surname and exact date, not this record. Original value: "78491404BG". Left as an unresolved collision otherwise -- this correction is specific to this one PDF-confirmed case, not a general claim this record's other data is wrong.
