Killed in action, during a contact with a numerically superior Angolan and Cuban force at Donguena, north of Calueque, in Southern Angola. He was sitting in the rear of the Casspir and was hit by a RPG7 or AT grenade, which killed him and set the vehicle alight. During the recovery process the doors had swung open and his body must have fallen out. His body was never recovered. This is the same contact during which L/Cpl Papenfus was captured by the Cubans
