I am assuming this is the same Oosthuizen mentioned in the book, Baanbreek In Die Bos written and published recently by Annie Buitendag, who is the wife of then Cmdt Thys Buitendag, 203 Battalion's commanding officer at the time. If so, then this is Pte Oosthuizen's story according to Mrs Buitendag, who was living at Mangetti-Duin, 203 Battalion's main base, in 1983. "( freely translated into English by me ) Talking about the team in the kitchen: one of the chefs, little Oosthuizen, wanted very much to go along on one of the 'ops', to experience the war for himself. The Companies relieved one another about every six weeks, and eventually he had an opportunity to go along on an 'ops'......Tragic as it was, the Buffel in which and a few others were riding hit a landmine, and he was the only one killed."
