"On 21 July 1981, four G2 guns were brought out of action and towed to the SAAF base at Mpacha where they were to be airlifted out to another sector (the build-up for Operation Protea) in the operational area. As one of the Samil 100 gun tractors was rounding a bend, the door of its crew compartment flew open and Bombardier Dick Hassebroek fell out. Despite all efforts by the crews and the medical personnel, Bombardier Hassebroek died of his injuries. The four guns that were destined for deployment elswhere ended up back in Nova base and back in action." From the book: First In Last Out-Clive Wilsworth.
