In the face of heavy machinegun fire the South Africans stormed the strongpoint and after 15 minutes of desperate close quarter fighting they overcame the enemy resistance. The Natal Company [attached to the SA Field Force Battalion], like the FFB before it, suffered heavily - Lt. Dennis PLATT was killed

Transferred to the Active Citizen Force 1913; converted from cavalry to armoured reconnaissance 1934. Renamed Queen Nandi Mounted Rifles 2019.
