20681Able Seaman David Price, 68529, H.M.S. Niger (South African Naval Forces), aged 31. During the return to Britain of convoy QP 13, HMS Niger led a column of merchantmen in bad weather with visibility reduced to one mile. HMS Niger had been unable to take bearings due to the weather but made a sighting of land, which was in fact an iceberg. She had unfortunately led the convoy into a British minefield off Iceland. She was mined at 22.40 hours in position 66 35'N, 23 14'W as were six of the merchants she was escorting, all but one also sank.

Died in Aircraft Accident, lost propeller on air-test, control lost, dived into ground miles south of Yelahanka; F/Sgt S. Schragger (Pilot) and F/Sgt W. Brister (Obs) killed. At 0810 hours F Sgt Schragger and his observer F Sgt Brister took off in V6504 on an air test. AT 0820 hours the port air screw flew off and the plane dived in from approximately 1000 feet killing both occupants immediately.

29392Corporal Etienne Louis Bell, 74426362BG, 1 Parachute Battalion, aged 21. Killed in action, during Operation Safraan. Delta Company received instruction to attack an enemy target in Zambia. The target was attacked and some of the enemy force managed to get away and formed splinter groups. During the night our company retreated in a typical "U" formation on our own tracks, with the purpose of forming a “TB” (Temporary Base) for the night. At that time one of the enemy splinter groups was conducting its own reconnaissance, and had surprised our forces. The enemy fired at us and one bullet hit Etienne in the head. The wound to Etienne's head was fatal.
