32423Second Lieutenant Critton John Pappas, P1/40174, 2 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 26. Killed in action, in North American F-51 Mustang #363. A flight of four Mustangs, led by Lt Pretorius, conducted a rail interdiction mission in the YD area. After attacking their primary target successfully, they proceeded to a village north-east of Sibyon-ni, which they attacked with rockets. While pulling out of his dive, 2Lt C.J. Pappas' aircraft was seen to explode in a silvery flash, although there was only light 20 mm flak in the vicinity. Further investigation revealed no sign of 2Lt Pappas or his aircraft. It was his first mission.

30469Lieutenant Peter William Geddes, 68394394BG, 151 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Medical Services), aged 28. Killed in action, at Okatopi. Died in an ambush near 53 SAI base while en route to the base, from Grootfontein. He had just arrived to start his 3 months Border duty.
1981
32552Corporal Johan Louis Potgieter, 74503004BG, 1 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 23. Ops Daisy. Died in an act of heroism about two kilo's south of "Bravo Battalion's HQ" in the Chitequeta district, South-eastern Angola. By doing so he specifically saved the wounded Rfn. Boorsma's life (diving onto him) and by doing so, he indicated to his Lieutenant where SWAPO was firing from and therefore saving more lives. A small group of FAPLA/SWAPO snipers had pinned a Ratel platoon for at least 10-15 minutes and killed two more Unita soldiers (traveling with them) and wounded another three. Was recommended for the Honoris Crux for his bravery, but army headquarters refused the recommendation.

Grant Mann and another gunner were changing a wheel on a vehicle in the transport park (TPT) at the 10 Artillery Brigade in Potchefstroom, when the wheel exploded and sent one of the split pieces of the rim flying through the air, both of them were injured, Grant unfortunately didn't survive the incident.
