A flight of four Mustangs, led by Lt Pretorius, conducted a rail interdiction mission in the YD area. After attacking their primary target successfully, they proceeded to a village north-east of Sibyon-ni, which they attacked with rockets. While pulling out of his dive, 2Lt C.J. Pappas' aircraft was seen to explode in a silvery flash, although there was only light 20 mm flak in the vicinity. Further investigation revealed no sign of 2Lt Pappas or his aircraft. It was his first mission.

32552Corporal Johan Louis Potgieter, 74503004BG, 1 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 23. Ops Daisy. Died in an act of heroism about two kilo's south of "Bravo Battalion's HQ" in the Chitequeta district, South-eastern Angola. By doing so he specifically saved the wounded Rfn. Boorsma's life (diving onto him) and by doing so, he indicated to his Lieutenant where SWAPO was firing from and therefore saving more lives. A small group of FAPLA/SWAPO snipers had pinned a Ratel platoon for at least 10-15 minutes and killed two more Unita soldiers (traveling with them) and wounded another three. Was recommended for the Honoris Crux for his bravery, but army headquarters refused the recommendation.

- 1951 32423 — Second Lieutenant Critton John Pappas, P1/40174, 2 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 26. Killed in action, in North American F-51 Mustang #363. A flight of four Mustangs, led by Lt Pretorius, conducted a rail interdiction mission in the YD area. After attacking their primary target successfully, they proceeded to a village north-east of Sibyon-ni, which they attacked with rockets. While pulling out of his dive, 2Lt C.J. Pappas' aircraft was seen to explode in a silvery flash, although there was only light 20 mm flak in the vicinity. Further investigation revealed no sign of 2Lt Pappas or his aircraft. It was his first mission.

- 1980 30469 — Lieutenant Peter William Geddes, 68394394BG, 151 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Medical Services), aged 28. Killed in action, at Okatopi. Died in an ambush near 53 SAI base while en route to the base, from Grootfontein. He had just arrived to start his 3 months Border duty.

- 1981 32552 — Corporal Johan Louis Potgieter, 74503004BG, 1 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 23. Ops Daisy. Died in an act of heroism about two kilo's south of "Bravo Battalion's HQ" in the Chitequeta district, South-eastern Angola. By doing so he specifically saved the wounded Rfn. Boorsma's life (diving onto him) and by doing so, he indicated to his Lieutenant where SWAPO was firing from and therefore saving more lives. A small group of FAPLA/SWAPO snipers had pinned a Ratel platoon for at least 10-15 minutes and killed two more Unita soldiers (traveling with them) and wounded another three. Was recommended for the Honoris Crux for his bravery, but army headquarters refused the recommendation.

- 1981 33651 — Lieutenant Gerrit Van Zyl, 74556416PE, 85 Combat Flying School (Sector 2), aged 23. Killed in action, contact in Sector 20, Ops Daisy. Ratel ambushed.

- 1982 29623 — Rifleman Lionel Gerald Brown, 78247814, 3 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 20. Died in Private motorcycle accident, in Port Elizabeth. He rode into the railings on a bridge.

- 1984 36859 — Constable Timothy Ben Ngwekazi, S148565E, Gauteng (South African Police), aged 20. Died in bus accident.

- 1985 32931 — Rifleman First Name Unknown Shitekela, 84908706SW, 101 Battalion (South West African Territory Force), aged 25. Died in Shooting Incident.

- 1986 37045 — Constable Leon Steyl Odendaal, W85645E, 6 Dist (Laingsburg) CW Div (South African Police), aged 21. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1991 31564 — Gunner Grant Mann, 89251813BG, 14 Artillery Regiment (South African Artillery), aged 21. Died in Freak Accident, at 10 Artillery brigade. Grant Mann and another gunner were changing a wheel on a vehicle in the transport park (TPT) at the 10 Artillery Brigade in Potchefstroom, when the wheel exploded and sent one of the split pieces of the rim flying through the air, both of them were injured, Grant unfortunately didn't survive the incident.

- 1992 36172 — Constable Cornelius Ephraim Mkhize, 0619770-1, Gauteng (South African Police), aged 53. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.

- 1993 34011 — Constable Vusimusi Hamilton Baduza, 0163850-5, South West Africa Police Counter-Insurgency Wing: Ops-K Division (KOEVOET) (South African Police), aged 43. Shot in the back and killed while on foot patrol in Katlehong Township.

- 2000 38167 — Inspector Sibusiso Amon Vilakazi, 161783-4, 39 Dist (Johannesburg) Tvl Div (South African Police), aged 31. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2001 34869 — Sergeant Bongani Abestus Gwijila, 629883-4, Mpumalanga (South African Police Service), aged 22. Municipal Police.

- 2004 36094 — Inspector Sello Meshack Mere, 614564-7, Mpumalanga (South African Police Service), aged 42. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.
