Died in Freak Accident, during 1987 floods of Natal where he formed part of a crew that were formed to save lives of civilians. During these rescues the Umgeni river banks broke and a wave of rubble overturned his boat and he was lost and subsequently drowned.

Killed in action, in Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, Ratel 90 was hit by a 100mm round fired from a Russian T55 tank. The projectile skipped off the muddy ground and went into the turret of his vehicle. His gunner and driver was also wounded in this battle but later recovered.

Injured in a Military accident in Rundu on 21 Nov 1987 while a passenger in a Kwevoel which struck a civilian vehicle. He was discharged medically unfit in Feb 1988 but died in Provincial Hospital on 3 Oct 1988. His death probably arose from his injuries as the military paid out compensation.

- 1987 30107 — Sub Lieutenant Gavin John Sholto Douglas, 81200826PE, SAS PW Botha (South African Navy), aged 22. Died in Freak Accident, during 1987 floods of Natal where he formed part of a crew that were formed to save lives of civilians. During these rescues the Umgeni river banks broke and a wave of rubble overturned his boat and he was lost and subsequently drowned.

- 1987 30718 — Second Lieutenant Adriaan Hodgson Hind, 84340157BG, 61 Mechanised Battalion Group (South African Infantry Corps), aged 19. Killed in action, in Battle of Cuito Cuanavale, Ratel 90 was hit by a 100mm round fired from a Russian T55 tank. The projectile skipped off the muddy ground and went into the turret of his vehicle. His gunner and driver was also wounded in this battle but later recovered.

- 1988 33102 — Private Andries Steyn, 83071126BW, 6 Maintenance Unit (South African Ordnance Services Corps), aged 24. Injured in a Military accident in Rundu on 21 Nov 1987 while a passenger in a Kwevoel which struck a civilian vehicle. He was discharged medically unfit in Feb 1988 but died in Provincial Hospital on 3 Oct 1988. His death probably arose from his injuries as the military paid out compensation.
