Both he and the pilot, Capt T van Rensburg, were thrown clear when the aircraft hit the ground. Cilliers was killed in the crash but the pilot escaped, and although injured, returned to the South African lines on foot. This was during the latter stages of Operation Sceptic. His body was recovered 2 years later.

- 1979 37534 — Detective Sergeant Mduduzi Titus Shabangu, S143523T, Gauteng (South African Police), aged 24. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1980 29745 — Sergeant Jacobus Daniel (Koos) Cilliers, 73215824PE, 17 Sqdn. (South African Air Force), aged 23. Killed in action, shot down by RPG-7 in Alouette III #24. Both he and the pilot, Capt T van Rensburg, were thrown clear when the aircraft hit the ground. Cilliers was killed in the crash but the pilot escaped, and although injured, returned to the South African lines on foot. This was during the latter stages of Operation Sceptic. His body was recovered 2 years later.

- 1984 33257 — Corporal Johannes Christiaan Theunissen, 80564958BG, 7 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 21. Killed in action, after being struck by a Soviet RPG-7 Anti-Tank Rocket when their position at Okankolo was attacked by a numerically superior force of SWAPO/PLAN insurgents.

- 1985 36548 — Constable S Phillip Mseleku, S172020B, North West Province (South African Police), aged 30. Died from injuries received after being shot.

- 1987 40662 — Lance Corporal Daniel Johannes Cronje, 85278729, 2 Special Service Battalion (South African Armoured Corps), aged 18. Died from a bullet wound to the head, at 1 Military Hospital. He was AWOL at the time and used his father's .22 revolver to play "Russian Roulette" while at his girlfriend's house.

- 1993 34790 — Captain Hans Jurie Goosen, 0405301-0, Hillbrow Police Station (South African Police), aged 32. Died on active service.

- 1994 36207 — Sergeant Fano Bethuel Mncibi, 0613917-5, North West Province (South African Police), aged 41. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 1998 31559 — Sergeant MacAi Mangali, 94854502, 32 (Buffalo) Battalion (SA Army), aged 23. Died of Medical Reason, at Kimberley Sickbay, while off duty.

- 1998 35887 — Inspector Mzikayise Atwell Masondo, 527133-9, Mpumalanga (South African Police), aged 25. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.

- 1998 32006 — Warrent Officer II Oliver John Norris Morule, 77158350, 110 Commando Squadron (SA Army), aged 43. Died of Medical Reason, at Potchefstroom, while off duty.

- 1999 35676 — Constable Jacob Johannes Masenya, 454428-5, Eastern Transvaal Division (South African Police), aged 18. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.

- 1999 36837 — Constable Agrippa Ngqalo, 499255-5, Gauteng (South African Police), aged 25. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.

- 2000 35118 — Sergeant Willem Martinus Kama, 913386-1, Gauteng (South African Police), aged 23. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2001 36134 — Inspector Nicholas Jan Mhlongo, 608608-0, Free State (South African Police Service), aged 29. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2002 37523 — Constable Kgokong Johannes Sezoe, 536461-2, Gauteng (South African Police Service), aged 37. Died in the execution of his duty as a member of the South African Police.

- 2004 36178 — Constable Cornelius Ephraim Mkhize, 544608-2, Gauteng (South African Police Service), aged 53. Died in a Motor Vehicle Accident.
