Nothing was heard from the aircraft after take off and it failed to return to base. Eight aircraft from the Squadron took part in the mission, and one of these W4378 failed to return.

Lost without a trace with all of its crew. 13 of the 187 bomber force were shot down over the North Sea, it is 'probable' that ED318 was one of these.
