Battle of Savate Virtual Memorial

No physical monument or cemetery exists in Angola for these men — SADF Border War dead were repatriated to South Africa, most for burial in their home towns, and their national commemoration is the SADF Wall of Remembrance at the Voortrekker Monument (see Memorial #1). This page is a virtual memorial: it gathers, in one place, the fifteen 32 Battalion soldiers killed on 21 May 1980 at Savate, Cuando Cubango province, Angola, during Operation Tiro a Tiro — the Battle of Savate, 32 Battalion's costliest single action to that point in the war and, by most accounts, its greatest victory.

Location: Savate, Cuando Cubango (Cubango) province, Angola
