John Cardy was killed on March 3rd 1900 at Potchefstroom. He was with a party of 12 men acting as a covering party tasked with holding a hill. On reaching the summit, he was killed by a shot from beyond the crest line of the hill. I have a copy of the letter sent to his parents from CFH Rumbold, explaining the circumstances of his death. John Cardy was my grandfathers ( also John Cardy)uncle.
