Son of Sir Percy and Lady Fitzpatrick, of Amanzi, Uitenhage, South Africa. Born at Johannesburg. Volunteered 4th August, 1914, and served in Rebellion and German South West Africa with the Imperial Light Horse. Educated at St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown. It is believed a plaque on his grave reads "The death of this South African Soldier was the inspiration behind the annual two-minute pause at 11 o'clock on the 11 November throughout the British Empire for fallen soldiers. His father Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, submitted the suggestion to King George V who accepted and implemented the idea." On Cape Town "Company Gardens" Artillery Memorial. Commemoration stone in Eastern Cape, KIRKWOOD district, Bernol 95, Fitzpatrick's graves.
