My grandfather, Captain AEM Norton DSO (1869-1922), 4th South Australian Imperial Bushmen's Contingent (4SAIB), returned from South Africa in 1900 with the Bible (in Dutch) of a PR Botha of Blauw Vallei. The date on the flyleaf reads 5 September 1890. Presumably he came took it from the body of a Boer soldier or on sacking a farmhouse. I don't know if this is the same PR Botha of the Lystenburg commando commemorated in the Roll Of Honour. Norton's DSO was awarded for a sharp action fought on 3 July 1900 in which he relieved RFA artillery pieces the Boers had captured at Bakenkop or Plesierfontein, between Lindley and Bethlehem. Someone may know if the Lystenburg commando was fighting in this area in June and July.
