Officer Commanding 1 SAI; Commandant SA Army College; Aide de Camp to the Chief of the SANDF; Director Peace Support Operations; GOC Joint Operations Headquarters until 31 October 2019. Appointed Chief of the South African Army 1 November 2019 (promoted Lieutenant General October 2019); unable to take up the post fully because of illness. Buried with full military honours at Heroes Acre, Zwide Cemetery, Port Elizabeth, 21 December 2019.
