Raised in the Eastern Cape in February 1900 under Colonel Crewe; part of Brabant's Colonial Division (relief of Wepener, Brandwater Basin, later Cape Colony). Stirling, J. (1907), The Colonials in South Africa 1899-1902, as reproduced on the same unit page. Not previously on the ROH; Border Horse did not exist as a unit in this database. The site's separate 57-page WO100/236 QSA medal-roll PDF for this corps is a clasp entitlement roll (resignations/transfers in Remarks), not itself a casualty source. Recorded in the roll as "Winburg DIED in Hosp" on 14.1.01. Stirling: at Tabaksberg on 29 January 1901 they had 10 casualties including Captain Cameron wounded; this hospital death is 15 days earlier and is recorded as the roll states it, not forced into that action.
