defenceWeb, "SANDF peacekeeper fatalities" and "DRC deaths pushed SANDF peacekeeper fatalities to over 100 since democracy" (compiled lists). New record, no prior ROH entry found.
26 Sep 2026: how the fourteen died, recorded for the deployment and NOT as a claim about this man. Of the fourteen South African soldiers killed in eastern DRC in January 2025, nine were killed in the fighting around Sake, three when mortar fire landed on the SANDF base near Goma airport, one died later of wounds received at Sake, and one died of gunshot wounds in Goma. The fighting involved the M23. The source gives that breakdown only in total and does not say which man died in which way, so this record's own cause of death is left as it stands. Parliament's defence committee afterwards called for the force's combat readiness, defence intelligence, combat-support equipment, air support and ammunition supply to be investigated.
- RANK CONFLICT, NOT CHANGED: this record gives Private. The published list of the fourteen names him as a Rifleman. Both are infantry private-equivalents and the difference may be no more than which form the source used, so the stored value stands and the disagreement is recorded.
