No SAWGP record found. One of two members of the battalion killed outright in the 6 Nov 1979 Caprivi Strip vehicle accident that also injured Lifatila P.S. (who died of his injuries 13 Nov 1979, also added this pass). New ROH record. War In Angola Roll of Honour (warinangola.com, tabid=1175), page 91 of 143.
Bushwar Books Lest We Forget 27 August (https://www.warbooks.co.za/posts/lest-we-forget-27-august/ lists Rifleman Frans Lilungwe, Sector 70 Headquarters SWATF, military vehicle accident, 27 Aug 1979, SN 78940210HO. This ROH record has same SN, DateDeath 1979-11-06, Unit 33 Battalion, no FirstName — likely same person; date/unit not overwritten. Not in Graham 27 Aug 2026 paste. Mike Sandham email 27 Aug 2026 (SAWGP advanced search 17 Jan 1949-17 Feb 2017, no record): confirms age 23 at death; also appears on three warinangola.com South African Unit Profiles pages beyond the Roll of Honour listing already cited -- 33 Battalion (tabid=1239&Parameter=633), 701 Battalion (tabid=1239&Parameter=77), and Sector 70 Headquarters (tabid=1239&Parameter=764, a 3-member roster). Home unit recorded as 33 Battalion; the Sector 70 HQ / 701 Battalion associations are cross-listings on warinangola.com, not stated as an "attached to" relationship, so no PersonUnitAttachment row was added.
4 Sep 2026: Regiment leftover "South African Infantry Corps" (a branch/Corps, not a specific regiment) moved to Corps, matching the same organisation already correctly classified there elsewhere on the ROH.
14 Sep 2026: Pro Patria Medal added -- database-wide sweep for SADF Border War operational-area deaths within the medal's gazetted window (25 Jun 1976 - 27 Apr 2003), per the warrant's died-before-qualifying-period provision. See PersonAward.Citation for the gazette references.
14 Sep 2026: Pro Patria Medal added earlier today REVERTED -- John obtained the actual Government Gazette (GG 5171/5575); the "died before completing the qualifying period" provision relied on does not exist in the primary text (it was a secondary-source claim). Actual Rule 5 requires (a) combat/enemy-caused incident, (b) a Ministerially-acknowledged operation (clasp), or (c) 55+ continuous/90+ non-continuous days in an operational area -- none of which this record's cause of death clearly demonstrates.
