Research notes

SN CORRECTION 25 Aug 2026: ServiceNo 87087201CK cleared -- the pantser.cmvo.org.za SADF deaths PDF lists that number under "WEYERS, JACOBUS" (PTE, Sterf 08 04 77), matching PersonNumber 33846 (Weyers, DateDeath 1977-04-08) by surname and exact date, not this record. Original value: "87087201CK". Left as an unresolved collision otherwise -- this correction is specific to this one PDF-confirmed case, not a general claim this record's other data is wrong.
4 Sep 2026: Regiment leftover "Cape Corps" (a branch/Corps, not a specific regiment) moved to Corps, matching the same organisation already correctly classified there elsewhere on the ROH.
4 Sep 2026: reverted Corps->Regiment for Cape Corps. John, citing SA History Online (sahistory.org.za/article/cape-coloured-corps-and-first-world-war), identified Cape Corps as a combat/recruiting identity with numbered battalions beneath it (like King's Royal Rifle Corps or the Machine Gun Corps), not an administrative branch grouping multiple distinct regiments -- unlike e.g. South African Infantry Corps, which genuinely groups different named regiments (Transvaal Scottish, Durban Light Infantry, etc).

There is a definite discrepancy with his date of death as he is listed with a birth date of 11 May 1970, which means he was not yet ten years old! I think this may have been the same incident as when another 2 Cape Corps member were killed on 8 April 1988. Born in 1970... force number at 17 in 1977 sounds correct.... date of death during operations could not have been earlier than 1988.
Also, the 2nd Battalion, South African Cape Corps, was only raised in December 1984...
Incidentally that other member of 2 SACC Bn has a force number starting with 89....! Another mystery to solve!
