On 2 May 1902 Lt Murray , while out on patrol, was killed near the farm Groenvlei. The patrol made contact with Boers dressed in khaki. Murray mistakenly took them to be native scouts and went forward meet them only to find they were Boers. On discovering his mistake he attempted to make a getaway but was killed by a volley fired by the Boers.
