The stored number was contamination, not a reading of this man's record: PersonNumbers 41620 to 41624 -- 5 consecutive records -- all carried the identical number P/8340, which belongs to the record at the head of that run (41620, Augustyn, Schalk Willem (S W)). A value repeated down a consecutive block of PersonNumbers is a forward-fill import artefact, not men who shared a service number. Mike's log supplies a different and plausible number for this man specifically, so the stored value is known-wrong regardless of whether the replacement proves exact.
