Charles Henry Thornton was a Trooper in the 3rd Cape Mounted Yeomanry and he was killed on 29 May 1879 during the assault on Morosi's Mountain, Basutoland in the 1879/80 Campaign to contain the revolt against British rule led by Chief Morosi .
