Forgive me if i have the wrong person, but there was a driver from 4 SAI on Ops Saffran in early '79 called Venter that died when a 30 mm HE shell from an Impala was picked up by a fellow called Van Schalkwyk. The shell was unexploded and one of the two of them took it apart with a swiss army knife. It exploded and Van Schalkwyk lost a hand and I think one eye. Venter died. What a waste!! I never knew him, but his father was the commandant who organised rations for the troops on the border.
