Sergeant Cornelius Andries Petrus van Tonder was killed on 10 November 1975 when the Impala Jet he was co-piloting crashed near Nottingham Road, Kwa-Zulu Natal, after hitting a grove of trees. He was a member of Durban's 5 Squandron of the South African Air Force. He is buried in Stellawood Cemetry in Durban. The pilot, Second Lieutenant J.H Cox, was also killed.
