Son of Mr. & Mrs. WCJ van der Merwe of Stilfontein
Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post 11 Oct 2024: 85269223BG Lance Corporal Hermanus Swanepoel van der Merwe, 93 Ammunition Depot, critically injured in a military vehicle accident on 25 Sep 1989 16km outside Jan Kempdorp while carrying out Military Police duties; died from his injuries at Universitas Hospital, Bloemfontein, on 11 Oct 1989, age 20.
4 Sep 2026: Regiment leftover "South African Ammunition Corps" (a branch, not a specific regiment) moved to Corps, per John's decision on the broader Regiment/Corps field-swap review.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED as a duplicate. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word repeating what the Branch column already says. Secondary Unit is for sub-units -- a company, a squadron, a commando -- and this record's branch of service is unchanged at "Army".
