Col (rt) Graham du Toit Last Post 05 Apr 2026: 67455097PM Captain Martin Charles Silberbauer, 85 Combat Flying School, killed at Roodewal Bombing Range near Pietersburg when Dassault Mirage III D2Z 851 struck the ground while recovering from a practice rocket attack, age 28.
25 Sep 2026, Unit2 service-branch sweep: the stored Secondary Unit "Army" was CLEARED. It was not a sub-unit, it was a service-branch word, and it CONTRADICTED this record's own Branch, "Air Force". Across the roll 787 records carried such a contradiction; judged against Corps and Regiment -- independent of both columns -- the evidence backed Branch 744 times and Unit2 not once. Branch is therefore kept and the contradicting word removed. Nothing is guessed: this man's branch of service is already recorded, and his sub-unit, if any, is simply not known.

On the 5 Feb 1975, Martin was an Instructor (Lt.) on a training flight in an Impala Mark I (#510) jet fighter, with his pupil Candidate Officer MG Russell, when there was an onboard fire. Both pilots ejected to safety and the aircraft crashed on "Papkuilsfontein" farm near Central Flying School, Langebaan, Western Cape. On 4 April 1979, Capt. Silberbauer was killed in a Mirage IIID2Z (#851) aircraft accident, near Pietersburg.
