We were a section moving along the Yati Strip. A person who i idendified as an member of the SADF ran across the strip. The next minute all hell broke loose. It was later reported that we had been ambushed by 40 terr's. Malan was shot through the right arm ,stomach and left arm. He died 4 day's later,/p>
I was in the Vickers Platoon. That ambush was laid for us at Onhunda. Malan was a friendly young man who I remembered as being a "really nice guy". We were all shocked and upset by his death. I wish that his nation had recognised his sacrifice more. May his soul rest in peace.

Malan seved with me in 11 Commando Kimberly. We did our basics together. He was killed on the 24/10/1976. Malan came from Villiersdorp. He attended school at Charley Hoffmeyer in Villiesdorp. He is buried at the graveyard in Villiersdorp.I will never forget the day he was killed. L.

Malan as we called him Jannie serve with me in 11 commando 1976 & was right in front of me when he got shot it seems like yesterday. We were together in the anti tank platoon & he was an outstanding soldier & a very good friend. That ambush happend on the 18/10/1976 @10h45 & Jannie passed away on the 26/10/1976. I will always remember him as a wonderful young man.
