FLAGGED, NOT CHANGED. This record and 31214 are both P.J. Labuschagne and both carry Regiment Northern Transvaal, which is the pattern of a forward-fill. But unlike a forename against its own initials, a Regiment has nothing on the record to check it against, and two men of the same surname serving in one regiment is entirely ordinary. They are different men -- Commandant Peet J Labuschagne (05535463, died 1992-12-04) and Lieutenant Colonel Petrus Jacobus Labuschagne (95419085, died 1998-09-20) -- with different service numbers, ranks and dates. Needs a source naming this man's unit before anything is altered.

Across the roll 787 records carried such a contradiction; judged against Corps and Regiment -- independent of both columns -- the evidence backed Branch 744 times and Unit2 not once. Branch is therefore kept and the contradicting word removed. Nothing is guessed: this man's branch of service is already recorded, and his sub-unit, if any, is simply not known.
