Killed in action, in North American F-51 Mustang #345. Lt G.H. Krohn was a member of a flight tasked with rail interdiction. On take off, Lt Krohn aborted due to a fault with his radiator, and was delayed 10 minutes, the rest of his flight continuing without him. After his radiator had been repaired, he took off alone, in an attempt to catch up with his flight. He was seen by two USAF flights, and Lt Krohn reported that he was making his attack with a USAF flight. They reported seeing his bombs explode, and the last American pilot off the target reported seeing a lone 'Cheetah' Mustang heading south. He failed to return, and was not heard of again

Research notes

Nephew Michael Ayliff Krohn helped confirm George's date of birth as 2 November (email 24 Aug 2026). SAWGP details.php?id=31160 already had Date of Birth 1921-11-02 (verified 2024-03-02); FamilySearch baptism record (15 Dec 1921, mother Gertrude Annie Louisa Krohn) is consistent with a 2 November 1921 birth. DateBirth set to 1921-11-02; EstBirthYear cleared now that the exact date is confirmed. | Locality was wrongly set to "Gauteng" -- corrected 28 Aug 2026 (second pass, this time verified against Cemetery rather than AddInfo text, after the first AddInfo-based pass was found to be unreliable and reverted). This person's own Cemetery is unambiguously outside South Africa; several other people at the same cemetery already correctly show a blank Locality. Cleared rather than guessed at a specific region.
5 Sep 2026: Unit "2 Squadron" (a squadron, SAAF's regiment-equivalent) promoted to Regiment, per John's decision. Corps (South African Air Force) unchanged.
