Part of
Formed 21 September 1899 as the Imperial Light Horse (Second Boer War). Volunteer unit in the Transvaal Volunteers 1902-1913, then transferred to the Active Citizen Force as "5th Mounted Rifles (Imperial Light Horse)" in 1913. Reformed as an armoured regiment 1949; split into 1 LHR/2 LHR 1975 (Border War era), reamalgamated 1997. Renamed Johannesburg Light Horse Regiment 2019.
Notes
Went to St. Andrew's College, Grahamstown from October 1897 to December 1899. In 1901 he joined Cape Peninsular Regiment and after the Boer War entered Civil Service in the Transvaal. Later became a Public Prosecutor at Boksburg. In 1914 he served in Rebellion of 1914 with Enslin's Horse and the campaign of SWA, where he was a trooper with the ILH, and East Africa (Staff Sgt. 1st Mtd. Bde.). He subsequently obtained a commission as a 2nd Lieut. in the KAR.
