Killed in aircraft accident, in Beechcraft Baron. The plane, known as "Dinky Toy" was supplied by UNITA and had been checked out by SAAF personnel at Rundu. It was busy with aerial observations for Battlegroup Foxbat in the Silva Porta area of Angola when it crashed, 6km north of Norton de Matos. The SADF investigation team could not determine the exact cause of the crash

Cpl Beechey was attached to 1 Special Service Battalion. He was killed in an aircraft crash along the Silva Porto ? Lobito Road when the task force was heading to Lobito. He was an observer in the aircraft that was looking for enemy positions. The reason for the crash was not known.
