Research notes

Mike Sandham 3 Sep 2026 omissions: 79350401BG Rfn Shaun Patrick Atkins, 6 SAI, Buffel overturn Grahamstown with Orlando De Portugal Goncalves (30491). Sandham: 3 September 1985 on grave headstone; War in Angola unit profile Date of Death=1985/09/03; Lys van Weermaglede ((Sterf = 09 03 85)) previously stored as 1985-03-09. DateDeath corrected 1985-03-09 → 1985-09-03. CONFLICT noted: Lys DD-MM-YY reading still supports 9 Mar 1985 — headstone + WIA preferred per Sandham.

Steve (28) and Porto (510) were 2 good guys who were a laugh when we share guard duty. We also liked it when Steve's family came to visit on a Sunday as he had a lovely sister who we all thought was lekker!! Porto came from Sea Point and his father ran a cafe on High Level Rd. They were sadly taken away whilst on static duty on Raglin Road in Grahamstown when their Buffel rolled and they were thrown out. May God let their souls rest in peace as they might have gone, but they are not forgotten. RIP. (Echo company '84 to '86, 6SAI) John Airey (Plt5, E Comp.)
