Died 2 Aug 1942 on the Italian ship Rosalina Pilo whilst a POW (1st South African Police). Stories 1
by George Stegmann (The Lights of Freedom) on 26 August 2026
Lance Corporal Andries Jacobus Van Den Berg, 1st South African Police, died on 2 August 1942 on the Rosalina Pilo while a prisoner of war after the fall of Tobruk.

George Stegmann (The Lights of Freedom), himself a Tobruk POW on the Benghazi–Tripoli voyage, writes that on 2 August “van der Linde of A. Company” died and was put ashore at Tripoli. Given the author’s note that some names were changed, this is a strong date/unit/voyage match.
