Edgar Midlane was born in 1878, in Gibraltar, where his Father was serving in the Rifle Brigade. He was the son of John and Emma Midlane, then residing at 48 Abbey Lane, Stratford, East London. He was one of twelve children, one of his brothers being my maternal grandfather, Fred Midlane, who died of wounds in the 1914-18 War.
