Son of Augustus Heyman Quin and May Marjorie Quin, of Claremont, Mill River, Harrismith, Orange Free State, South Africa. On Harrismith War Memorial, Free State. A moving tribute was published in his old school's gazette 1918 "He entered Michaelhouse School, February 1913 and left June 1914. Frank is so far the youngest Michaelhouse boy to lay down his life in the Great War. But, although so young, he had already been for some time in France. Last year he was slightly wounded but soon returned to duty. On April 3rd, in the magnificent fight put up by Springboks in their effort to stem the great German advance, he fell covered with wounds, and died after the amputation of one of his legs. His father writes: "He loved his School and took the late Rector as his model of what a man should be". And how splendidly he followed in the footsteps of his model, gladly, like the Rector, giving up his life that others might live in freedom. During his time here he ever showed great keenness, both in his work and in his games. Many who are still here will remember him, modest, unassuming, yet full of life and energy".
