Nephew of Rita Peter, of Grahamstown. Attested at Grahamstown on 26 July 1916. ***CWGC has GUNGE PEPA and dod 18 December 1916
22 Sep 2026: MERGED duplicate PersonNumber 19958 into this record on John's instruction. The pair surfaced from the ServiceNo contamination sweep, whose duplicate-person guard flagged rather than cleared them: both carry ServiceNo 12815, the same name, the same unit (Transport and Remounts, SA Native Labour Corps) and the same date of death, so they are one man entered twice rather than a forward-fill.
- ABSORBED from 19958: its research note, "***Not yet accepted for War Grave Status by CWGC, need service file", which this record lacked. That matters -- this record commemorates him on the PUGU ROAD 1914-18 MEMORIAL, while 19958 gave his cemetery as "DAR ES SALAAM AREA CEMETERY ?", with the question mark, and recorded that CWGC had not accepted the case. The two records disagreed about whether his grave status was settled.
- HIS AUNT'S NAME differs between them: this record reads "Nephew of Rita Peter, of Grahamstown", 19958 "Nephew of Lita Peter". R and L, one letter apart, from the same attestation at Grahamstown on 26 July 1916. Not resolved; recorded so the variant is not lost.
- This record already notes that CWGC has him as GUNGE PEPA with a date of death of 18 December 1916, a day later than the 17th recorded here.
- 19958's SAWGP entry (details.php?id=19958) moved here, so both SAWGP pages for this man are now cited. Its "no_image" placeholder photograph was dropped rather than moved; this record keeps the panel photograph of the Pugu Road memorial.
