Charles Cuthbert Stanley Heinke was my granfathers's brother. He was born to Frederick William and Rubina Heinke in Twickenham in Feb 1877. When aged 4, his father left to look for work in North America. His mothe Rubina could not afford to care for him, and he went to live with her great aunt in Folkestone. The Census records show that he attended the British Orphan School in Slough and Tatenhall School, Cheshire. He then joined the British Army, and my late mother related to me that he later died in the Boer War in South Africa. There is no record that he married.It is a privilige to have found his recorded death, at age 23, and I am grateful to obtain the details presented here.

Charles Cuthbert Stanley Heinke is remembered at St Luke's with All Saints Church, Salford. A plaque bearing his name, it reads: In sure and certain hope To the memory of Charles Cuthbert Stanley Heinke of the 77th Company Imperial Yeomanry and Capt St Lukes Company Weaste Church Lad's Brigade Who died of Enteric Fever 26th Feb1901 aged 24 At Heinbron O.R.C. South Africa Faithful unto death.
