(Stamford Hill Primary; Mansfield Road Government School; Durban High School 1932 -1936; admin # 4598) 190180 Private Royal Durban Light Infantry Born Vryburg, Transvaal 1/9/1915; a mine surveyor in Machavie, Transvaal by profession; served with the 1st Battalion RDLI in North Africa; killed in action, during the attack on Point 141, near Gazala. He was initially reported as missing, but later confirmed as having been killed in action. (Body not found / grave lost.) (His brother Athol Bertram also died in WWII.) Alamein Memorial to the Missing, El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
