Leighton , Alexander (A)

Walter William Ferniough born 1863 in Hulme, Lancashire, England the youngest child born to William Ferniough and Matilda Mason Vessey ( who we believe died in or after childbirth in 1863). Married in Colchester the 3rd quarter in 1888 or 1889 (there are 2 records with his name) however on both it records him having married either Louisa Mary Ann Jennings ( the most likely) or a Laura Laurence. Colchester was a base for the Somersetshire Light Infantry and we think that he might have been a regular soldier there. We can find no further records of him/his wife/children(if they had any) in any UK records to date. The next record is of his death on the 14-4-1900 (2nd Boer War) in Modderspruit, Mooi River, from disease, he would have been about 36 yrs old. There is a very slight chance that he and his family left the UK and moved to SA before that time but that is just a possibility because of no further records been found for his family in the UK that I can trace.
