Jordan, Royal Durban Light Infantry WWII Roll of Honour ("working document", Aug 2026 draft; email to John & Bobby, 4 Sep 2026, marked "not 100% correct"): LASKER, Lionel John (Both parents deceased - father Isidore Lasker 1/6/1928 & mother Jane (nee Lazarus) Lasker 2/2/1926; husband of Elsie Mary (nee Hyams) Lasker of Durban; they had 2 young boys.) 7212 Lance Corporal Royal Durban Light Infantry Born Barberton, ZAR 1891; married Durban 1/1/1928; a hotel manager before enlistment; served with the 1st Battalion RDLI in North Africa; lost at sea when German submarine U-177 torpedoed and sank S. S. Nova Scotia whilst en route from Aden to Durban, South Africa. (Body never recovered.) Alamein Memorial to the Missing, El Alamein War Cemetery, Egypt.
