13 Sep 2026: Possible identification with the Wayside Cross, Pinetown's "Jardine/Jardene C. -- Cpl, Durban Light Infantry" -- rank (Private here) and unit (2nd Regt. here, not DLI) both conflict; not resolved. The only WWI-era C. Jardine on the ROH besides D.G.B. Jardine (Capt RAF, different initials/unit).
13 Sep 2026: "2nd Regt." (2nd South African Infantry Regiment, 1st SA Infantry Brigade -- recruited from Natal and the Orange Free State, attached to 9th (Scottish) Division; fought at Delville Wood 1916, then Arras and Third Ypres/Passchendaele 1917, including the Battle of Poelcappelle, 9 Oct 1917) moved from Unit to Regiment; "C" Coy (was Unit2) moved to Unit. Date of death, 16-10-1917, falls right after Poelcappelle -- likely died of wounds from that action. Applied database-wide to 5,227 South African Infantry Corps records sharing this pattern, per John's decision.
