He died just to the south of Mupa on March 23 1988. During a fierce contact he was hit by a mortar and suffered multiple schrapnel wounds. His left lung was severely damaged. Carried by comrades to the planned LZ for casevac, he died approximately three hours after the battle. He was a brave man.
