25608Major Cuthbert Everard Brisley, 13th Training Depot Station (Royal Air Force), aged 32. Died in Aircraft Accident, took off on a training flight in Avro 504K D6361 with a mechanic, Private Fred Lythgoe as a passenger. While flying at a height of 6000 feet he performed a loop and fell from the aircraft. Lythgoe was not experienced enough to keep control of the aircraft and he too was killed when it crashed at 11.50am near Spoonley. Cuthbert Brisley's body was found some distance away from the crash site.

41466Flying Officer Paul De Villiers, 89112, 97 Sqdn. (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve), aged 35. Killed in action, Lancaster EE172, (Operation Gomorrah) was attacked by a German night-fighter and crashed near Wohnste, south-west of Hamburg. All the crew died in the crash.

10635Flight Sergeant Basil Hyman, 778292, 214 Sqdn. (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve). Killed in action, Stirling Mark III EF407 BU-A, aircraft took off at 22.27 hrs from Chedburgh. It is believed that it was shot down by a night-fighter, crashing into the North Sea. Only one body was recovered.

Killed in action, Halifax W7883, on the night of 29/30 July 1943 on their first operational sortie. They were part of a force of 777 aircraft - 340 Lancasters, 244 Halifaxes, 119 Stirlings, 70 Wellingtons, 4 Mosquitos being dispatched to Hamburg. The intention was to approach Hamburg from almost due north and bomb those northern and north-eastern districts which had so far not been bombed. At 22.39 they were airborne from Pockington, shot down at 00:57 by a night- fighter (Lt Gotthard Sachsenberg, 11./NJG3 flying a Dornier 217) from 18,000 feet, crashing at Todesfelde, 6 miles of Bad Segeberg killing all the seven man crew.

He was a member of an armoured car troop that was escorting a logistics convoy near Mupa. The Ratel he was in detonated a double tank mine and he was killed in the explosion.

30560Rifleman Johannes Petrus Wessels Groenewald, 81187023BG, 8 South African Infantry Battalion (South African Infantry Corps), aged 24. Died of injuries, critically injured and paralysed in a landmine explosion near Katima Mulilo on 14 July 1983. He was placed into a care facility after discharge from 1 Military Hospital but three years later, complications arose as a result of these injuries and gangrene set in. He was re-admitted to 1 Military Hospital where he died.
