8546Sergeant John Luke Graham, 778832, 35 Sqdn. (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve). Killed in action, Halifax W7760 was one of fourteen 35 Squadron aircraft detailed to attack Hamburg on the night of the 26/27 July 1942. W7760 failed to return and the squadron's Operations Record Book shows "Took off from Linton to attack Hamburg. The last fix obtained for this aircraft was 54.57N, 6.00E after an SOS had been received. The aircraft failed to return. An SOS was received and the last fix obtained showed him some 300 miles out at sea. Search was made and continued on the following day for this and other aircraft known to be down in the sea but nothing was seen of any survivors.

16716Flight Lieutenant Denis Milne, 80070, 20 Sqdn. (Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve), aged 24. Died in Aircraft Accident, Lysander II N1217, Flt Lt Milne with Colonel Stevens as his passenger failed to find their destination due to bad visibility. He was on a special recce mission to Dinjan. The aircraft took off at 1600 hours, and were unable to gain height to clear the mountains west of Fort Hertz. Milne decided to return to base but ran short of fuel. In an attempted force-landing on the tea garden road at Dum Duma, the aircraft swung and overturned. The pilot was killed and his passenger badly injured with a broken spine.

His foot got stuck between rocks in deep water and by the time assistance arrived and he was freed, he had already drowned.
